River Oaks School Fall Festival

By Duane Ausherman

When I am asked to report on one of these events, I do my best to fit it into my life.  This is another example of small town America.  The school administration, teachers, parents and students come together to raise much needed funds and have a lot of fun.  I had as much fun as any student there.  Thanks so much for the great cooperation.

These students are selling small items to raise money for the student council.  L. to R. (big smiley), also known as Star Sanchez (9), Elizabeth Calhoun (9), and Mitchell Woods (9).

Andrew (6) is trying to make a basket to win an airplane.  He was successful, as you can see by his smile and airplane.

The devil

This is Jill (9) and I don't think that she scared many people.  She is just precious.

Southern Belle

Faith (10) played a beautiful charming southern belle very well indeed.

Jessie Shafer, 12th grade, is having way too much fun dunking Brent Gomes.

Get even with the principle

Mrs. Bullard attracted a long line of students paying to dunk her.  She got wet too.

Eagle Scout projects

Dylan Chantry (13) sponsored this dental hygiene project to show proper flossing and displays of how much sugar is in soft drinks.  His brother, Kyle (17) on the right is signing up children for identification purposes.  Both are working to earn the coveted Boy Scout Eagle award.  Good luck boys.

Roxy Cortez is painting Ryan Laskosky's (8) face.

Fisherwoman Breclynn (8) is reeling in her prize that Katie Godfrey (9) helped to attach.

Nicole (3) is a shy ghost

Shelly Winslow is dressed up as a parent/cook and doing up lots of hot dogs.  The snackers were basking in the sun and enjoying the fare.

The pumpkin contest winners

L. to R. 2nd place home grown pumpkin Kyle (9), Starr (6) primo Pumpkin Award, Zachary (9) Primo Pumpkin Award, Kaitlan Imparato (not shown) scariest pumpkin, Katie Godfrey (9) cutest pumpkin, Megan Dansie (9) most original, Zackary Maxey (5) funniest, Sean Mullins (9) Best Overall and his first time entry.  He told me, "This is the first thing I have ever won."

Most Original Scarecrow

L. to R. Kim Robinson is the PTA president (age declined) and her "foreign friend" Jo Dee Widmayer from Livermore, CA.
