The I Love My (Fumasi) Park started at 1:00 p.m. but the free
hot dogs were cooking and food and drinks were ready to serve. For the first
time, the meal was served from a screened tent. Aarmondo Solis, Special Events
Administrator for the City of Galt, explained that the tent was one of the
requirements adopted by the Safety Committee, headed by Randy Shelton. A Health
Permit and an application is completed for each Special Event detailing plans,
such as amount of people expected or if any streets will be closed, etc.
That information is faxed to the Police, Fire, County Health Departments, and
the Bus Lines to allow them time to prepare for the event.

Galt Home Repair Loan Program is represented by Chris, Rebecca,
Loan Administrators and Julia, their Spanish interpreter. The low-interest loans
are available to low-income families who qualify; for example, a family of four
can make a maximum of $52,300/year. The loans are for health and safety needs or
energy efficiency, not intended for remodeling. If you have additional questions
or want to find out if you qualify, please call their toll-free number,
1-800-722-3436.

L to R Chris Gygi, John Ducker, Chris Schamber, James Kell, and
Shannon Ferrill, Galt Fire District, came out to support the community, meet the
residents, answer questions they might have.

Adila, Evelyn and Shooky (seated) are members of the Galt
Beautification Committee (Committee). Joining them, in the back row, are
Shooky’s sisters Marylou Powers, running for City Council, and Tammy Perry and
Tammy’s grand-children Cliff and Lace Lazano. Community enhancement is the
Committee’s goal. Recently they planted ice plants in front of L/Chyame Women’s
Center on Lincoln Way. A less rewarding job is painting over graffiti damaged
walls. In the past week they re-painted one wall four different times. A note to
the community: When you see graffiti, take a picture first before painting over
it, note the date, and then give it to the Police Department. Once the vandals
are caught, this will be evidence used against them. Shooky explained the newly
established “Bed of Roses” Project, that for a $20.00 donation the Committee
will provide and plant a rose bush—donor’s choice of color, and on planting day
arrange for a picture to be taken that will be published in the Galt Herald. The
Committee meets every third Thursday of the month at the Galt City Hall at 3:30
p.m. For more information or to volunteer, call (209) 366-7130.

At last year’s I Love Galt event, the “park visitors” painted
tiles that were baked in a kiln and displayed for future visitors.

The I Love Galt volunteers at today’s event are Gladys Brown,
Grace Malson, and Winona Casity. They gathered volunteer names for the
Neighborhood Watch, CAPS, Cadets, Crime Stoppers, and Graffiti programs; and
handed out free I Love Galt T-shirts, “Litter Bugs Me” bracelets, water bottles,
and cup insulators.
