September 6th. 2008 was the first Diversity Day in Galt. It was at the
Galt Community Park at Walnut and Carillion on the east side. Dozens of
booths, featuring our many local organizations, were in attendance. A dozen
groups (see list below) provided almost constant entertainment for all to enjoy.
The master of ceremonies was Crystal Rodriguez, a junior in the award winning
engineering program.
Congratulations for a job well done

This Mexican folk dance demonstration was awash in color. They are
Ballet Folklorico Nube de Oro
and were just one of many groups to entertain on Diversity Day.

This skilled dancer was so happy to pose and show her beautiful costume for the

Scott Lethbridge and Kathleen Amos with the
Galt Area Historical Society show off the area's newest museum,
McFarland Living History Ranch.

The Galt Community of Character Coalition sponsored this event. These two
students Crystal Rodriguez and Stephanie Kinnard. Crystal is an emerging
leader among Galt's best students. She is active in the City Youth
Committee, Galt Area Historical Society and the GHS engineering program.

Dan Salisberry, John Durand and Kathy Loesch represented the Kiwanis Club in
Galt. They sponsor the AVID club at Galt High School. AVID teaches
leadership and is quite active.

Mikala Tabor (13) and Monica Durand (14) are having a great time helping at the
Galt Area Youth Coalition booth. This group is supported by a $600,000
grant from the Reach Program.

The Galt City Council sponsors a Youth Committee to promote leadership and
community service. Taylor Johnston (14) is a new member this year.

Galt is fortunate to have two Rotary Clubs. This one meets in the mornings
(sunrise) and is represented by Louis Jassa and Grace Malson.

Mike Singleton is a major force behind our local Crime Stoppers program.

The Galt City Council sponsors a group to assist and promote cleaning up things
around Galt. Here are Lori Hines, Evelyn Moore and 13 year old Ashley.
All citizens are encouraged to report any blight to the city.

The Galt Market (known locally as the flea market) is being promoted by Tanni
Watts, Cheree Smith and Jonathan Lucero.

Wanda Dozhier is selling some of the hand made items to help support L'chayim, a
women's group. For info call 744-8915. They also had the hot dog
booth on the other side of the park.

Galt has an active PTA and Terry Metzger is happy to explain the programs.

These three, Diana, Andrea and Rosie are all 17 and selling drinks to raise
money for AVID. How can anyone resist those smiles? I couldn't.
AVID is sponsored by Kiwanis and promotes leadership.

Angel (14) and Tiffany (14) are selling cotton candy to help raise funds for the
music program at Galt High.

McCaffery middle school is here............. and having fun.

We have cheerleaders. Celeste Munoz (14), Courtney Reese (17), Bianca Diaz
(15) and Nessa Huckaba (17) were so kind to take a few moments to pose.

Galt High School is so lucky to have a health education program for students
considering a career in the health field. Here we have Emily McPherson
(16), Genna Hoeven (17), Yian Saeteurn (17) and Craig Anderson, the chemistry
teacher, age unknown.

Valley Oaks Grange is well known for the excellent breakfasts and dinners at the
local Grange Hall at the corner of 5th and D St. The next dinner is $6 and
features spaghetti, green salad, French bread and ice cream sundaes. Take
out available. The third Sunday of every month is breakfast for only $4.
